Is cam chat safe?
Updated:
The big, well-known cam sites are mostly safe if you follow a few simple rules. Most problems start when the conversation or the payment leaves the site.
What can a model see about you?
- Your username, if you chat or tip.
- The tips you give.
- You on camera only if you switch it on yourself (for example “cam2cam”). Otherwise the model cannot see you.
- Not your name, address, e-mail or card details.
10 safety rules
- Choose a username that says nothing about you (no name, no year of birth).
- Use a separate e-mail address just for such sites.
- Use a strong, unique password and two-step verification if available.
- Do not share personal data in the chat, not even with a “nice” model.
- Do not move the chat to Telegram, WhatsApp or Snapchat. The site cannot protect you there.
- Pay only on the site. Requests for transfers, gift cards or “direct” crypto are scams.
- If you switch on your camera, do not show your face or anything that identifies you (room, window, documents).
- Beware of blackmail (“I have a recording, pay me”). Do not pay, cut contact and report it to the site and the police.
- Do not install “add-ons” or “token generators”: they are malware.
- Afterwards you can use your browser's private mode so no history is left.
How to spot a scam
Pressure, requests for money outside the site, a link to a “better” site or threats: stop the conversation at once.
